The Nash

Reviving a Downtown Phoenix Jazz Landmark with Modern Craftsmanship

Introduction: The Nash, located in the heart of Roosevelt Row, underwent a complete renovation that redefined its character as one of Phoenix’s most iconic jazz clubs. Over a rapid 14-week schedule in the summer of 2024, this 3,700-square-foot project balanced historical preservation with modern performance needs. The work included new restrooms, a full bar, and an upgraded kitchen to expand service capabilities while maintaining the club’s intimate ambiance. Every detail—from sound control to lighting design—was executed with precision to create a venue that feels both elevated and authentic to the spirit of live jazz.

Accelerated Construction Timeline: The Nash renovation was completed in just 14 weeks, showcasing expert coordination and fast-track project management. Tight scheduling and trade alignment allowed the club to reopen ahead of the fall music season without disrupting its performance calendar.

Enhanced Guest Amenities: Brand-new restrooms and an expanded bar and kitchen elevate the overall guest experience. These upgrades were designed for high-volume operation while maintaining the club’s comfortable, sophisticated atmosphere.

Acoustic Design and Sound Quality: Given The Nash’s musical heritage, acoustics were a top priority. The build incorporated acoustic wall treatments, insulated ceilings, and sound-isolated mechanical systems to preserve performance clarity and eliminate vibration interference.

Lighting and Ambiance Control: A layered lighting plan allows seamless transitions between performances, private events, and evening service. Dimmable LED fixtures highlight architectural features while maintaining an intimate stage presence.

Functional Enhancements:

Optimized Bar and Kitchen Systems: The full-service bar and kitchen were built for performance, featuring commercial-grade equipment, efficient backflow design, and easy access for restocking and service.

Acoustic Isolation Upgrades: Special attention was given to isolating sound between the stage, audience, and service areas, maintaining crystal-clear acoustics regardless of event size.

HVAC and Air Quality Improvements: New ducting and zoning enhance comfort and ventilation, supporting both guest areas and high-heat kitchen zones.

Lighting and Electrical Efficiency: Energy-efficient LED systems and modern dimming controls provide flexibility for performances and reduce long-term energy use.
